Identifying specific fungal species in ecological and biological samples

Mycobiota is an understudied field yet has profound effects on the ecosystem of environment as well as human health. As a “proof of concept” we will develop we will develop a LAMP assay (loop-mediated isothermal amplification) to identify specific fungal species in the urban environment and in human tissues.

Identifying hydrocarbon contamination in the environmental samples

The alkane monooxygenase gene has been described from several species as being enriched in soils contaminated by hydrocarbons (oil spills). As a “proof of concept” we will develop a LAMP assay (loop-mediated isothermal amplification) to target the AlkB gene.
